About Me

For over twenty years, I have served in a variety of executive and senior level roles in the arts, arts administration, and higher education spaces. In 2022 I founded Writing Art offering writing and editing services for individual artists and arts and culture organizations. In addition to working with private clients, I lead workshops based in the mission of Writing Art.

Several years ago, to develop an admissions viewbook, my team and I told the stories of individual students thriving at a very special liberal arts college. Many among these students dreamed of becoming successful artists, and we counted on the prospective students seeing themselves in their stories.

Stories.

Stories have become integral to our contemporary lexicon.

Why?

We connect with each other when we tell our stories. We all have one. In fact, we have several. As time passed, I was gifted a variety of experiences—professional and personal—which have brought me to Writing Art. I have identified a need, which if met on its own terms, I can help address. Many artists are gifted writers. Others, however, know they need the written word to tell the story of their art but do not have the temperament, inclination or bandwidth. Arts & culture organizations often are producing inspiring work with a poorly resourced infrastructure—maybe if they had someone to whom to handoff a discrete project, the team might breathe a little easier. That’s where I come in.

I thrive where art and business intersect. The space at this intersection is where the artists, or arts & culture organizations, must sometimes reside to celebrate their art & work to make it more available to the world. The reach and visibility you seek for your art, for your work, can be achieved through the written word, alongside the wonderful images of your art (still and moving)—with an artist statement, a book project you have imagined, accessing funding for artists to help propel you to your next project or afford you more time with an existing project, polishing your website content, developing a blog or newsletter for collectors or potential collectors, crafting strategic planning and/or visioning documentation, and so on. I will bring to the work curiosity, sensibility, empathy, respect, awe, and a capacity to see what is possible and how to get there. Working with your budget, I will help you organize your thinking and project(s). Together we will tell your story, the story of your art, the story of your work, and we will create formidable results.
